Ethiopian Elementary School and Junior High School students have great interest in knowing, visiting and even getting scholarships from Indonesia. These students also want to build friendships with their peers in Indonesia.

Therefore, teachers and parents need to encourage the creation of friendship between students of the two countries.

This was said by Al Busyra Basnur, the Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti and the African Union when visiting and meeting with participants of the Indonesia-Ethiopia Student Correspondence Program (IESCOP) at the Wisdom Educational Academy.

IESCOP is one of the strategic programs of the Indonesian Embassy in Addis Ababa which was launched by Ambassador Al Busyra Basnur with Molalign Asfaw, Director General of Asian and Oceania Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia on April 8, 2021 at the Indonesian Embassy in Addis Ababa.

“IESCOP aims to foster friendship between elementary and junior high school students of the two countries through correspondence. They are accompanied by their teachers and / or parents considering that they are under 18 years of age, ”said Al Busyra, in a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Addis Ababa, which was received by Medcom.id, Friday, April 23, 2021.

“They are the generation who will become the leaders of the nation in their future. Therefore, friendship between the leaders of the nations in the world must start from an early age. Through correspondence, students not only get acquainted, they also tell each other about daily life and their respective countries, “added Al Busyra.

At the time of launch, there were 71 IESCOP participants, 49 from Indonesia and 22 from Ethiopia. This number continues to grow because it is open to the public. Students from both countries can join as participants through the IESCOP facebook group.
